With signing day behind us and most of the portal moves and coaching changes behind us outlets are re-ranking teams in their Way-Too-Early Top 25 rankings. For Notre Dame, that has often resulted in them moving up in the rankings.

The Athletic released its updated rankings and Notre Dame moved up to No. 7 in the latest rankings.

"Marcus Freeman boosted his offense by hiring away LSU OC Mike Denbrock and landing Duke QB Riley Leonard and adding three quality receivers, including Florida International’s Kris Mitchell (1,118 yards). He also brought in Northwestern CB Rod Heard II (85 tackles last season) to team with standout CB Benjamin Morrison, All-America S Xavier Watts and Arizona State S Jordan Clark. DTs Howard Cross III and Rylie Mills return up front." - Stewart Mandel, The Athletic

Notre Dame was ranked No. 9 in the previous ranking, so the Irish jumped up just two rankings. Alabama and Washington both fell behind Notre Dame, with Alabama going from No. 2 to No. 8, and Washington going from No. 7 to out of the rankings.

Only three Notre Dame opponents were ranked in the latest Top 25 from The Athletic. Louisville ranked No. 11 (up from No. 16), Florida State ranked No. 14 (up from No. 19) and Texas A&M ranked No. 21 (was previously unranked). USC was listed as a program that just missed the rankings.

One surprise in the rankings is that Michigan is still ranked No. 6. Of course the Wolverines had a brilliant 2023 season, but they were absolutely decimated by departures. Washington lost their head coach and a bunch of players and the result was them dropping out of the Top 25 entirely. Michigan lost its head coach, at least half its coaching staff and a bunch of starters, including quarterback JJ McCarthy. The Wolverines also haven't loaded up on transfers like other programs, but they stayed at the No. 6 spot.
