Notre Dame Standouts Perform Well At The NFL Scouting Combine

Breaking down every former Notre Dame standout at 2024 NFL Scouting Combine

The 2024 NFL Scouting Combine concluded on Sunday. Over 300 of the top 2024 NFL Draft prospects tested their abilities against NFL scouts, decision makers and coaches from across the league. Among that list, eight former Notre Dame players were in attendance to compete.

Here are how each of the Irish standouts performed in Indianapolis.

QB SAM HARTMAN - 6-1 ⅛”, 211 pounds

The word “solid” has been used to describe a ton throughout the draft process for Hartman. That continued during this week, seeing some solid reviews of Hartman’s on-field performance, interviews and character. While there was nothing that really popped out about Hartman physically, he did his requisites in a lot of different areas.

Here are some of Hartman’s testing numbers from this week.

40-Yard Dash: 4.80 seconds
Vertical Jump: 28.5 inches
Broad Jump: 9 feet, 1 inch
3-Cone Drill: 7.19 seconds
Short Shuttle: 4.34 seconds

The path for Hartman on the next level is as a preferred backup. It’s uncertain whether he’s done enough to solidify that status, although he certainly has done a good job competing. Hartman’s Combine performance should be seen as a success.

RB AUDRIC ESTIME - 5-11 ⅜”, 221 pounds

It was a very strange Combine performance for Estime. In large, he was fantastic in Indianapolis. He interviewed well and the majority of his testing numbers were superb. Estime placed near the top of the position group in vertical jump, broad jump and bench press. He also looked very good in the position drills.

Unfortunately the one thing people will talk about most is his forty-yard dash time, which was very underwhelming. It isn’t a death sentence but it’s something that Estime will want to improve during the Pro Day on March 21st. He will also have to perform the short area tests.

Here are Estime's full testing numbers from this week.

40-Yard Dash: 4.71 seconds
Vertical Jump: 38 inches
Broad Jump: 10 feet, 5 inches
3-Cone Drill: DNP
Short Shuttle: DNP
Bench Press: 23 reps

OT JOE ALT - 6-8 ⅝”, 321 pounds

Coming into the Combine, Alt was considered a potentially elite prospect and favorite to the first offensive tackle selected in April. Coming out, that fact seems all but cemented. Across the board, he tested phenomenally. Arguably Alt’s top overall test is the three-cone, where he tied for the eighth fastest time among offensive tackles since 1999, including tying current Philadelphia Eagle superstar Lane Johnson.

Here are Alt’s full testing numbers from Sunday.

40-Yard Dash: 5.05 seconds
Vertical Jump: 28 inches
Broad Jump: 9 feet, 4 inches
3-Cone Drill: 7.31 seconds
Short Shuttle: 4.51 seconds

OT BLAKE FISHER - 6-5 ¾”, 310 pounds

Fisher got the day started off on a strong note, having longer arms (34 ⅜ inches) and wingspan (83 inches) than Alt, who is revered for his length. He was in tremendous shape, and certainly looked the part of an NFL offensive tackle. His testing was pretty good across the board, especially putting out one of the best broad jumps at 9 feet and 6 inches. Fisher’s short area testing was slightly below average and did have some ankle tightness in position drills. Some early feedback is several teams intend on giving him a shot to stick at offensive tackle, but others do see him moving inside on the next level.

Here are all of Fisher’s testing numbers from Sunday.

40-Yard Dash: 5.20 seconds
Vertical Jump: 28 inches
Broad Jump: 9 feet, 6 inches
3-Cone Drill: 7.76 seconds
Short Shuttle: 4.73 seconds

EDGE JAVONTAE JEAN-BAPTISTE - 6-4 ⅝”, 239 pounds

The night before on-field testing, it was rumored that Jean-Baptiste had food poisoning and lost a substantial amount of weight. After playing this past season up around 260 pounds, Jean-Baptiste came in at just 239 pounds. Despite that, the pass rusher tested exceptionally well. Testing at a smaller weight was obviously a help but Jean-Baptiste also performed well in the position drills.

Here are Jean-Baptiste’s testing numbers from this week.

40-Yard Dash: 4.66 seconds
Vertical Jump: 34.5 inches
Broad Jump: 10 feet, 7 inches
3-Cone Drill: DNP
Short Shuttle: DNP
Bench Press: DNP

Not only will Jean-Baptiste have to finish his testing during the Pro Day but NFL teams will be interested to see what he weighs in at. Seeing him more in the 250 pound range would be big.

LB JD BERTRAND - 6-0 ⅞”, 235 pounds

Unfortunately Bertrand was not able to participate in the Combine testing outside of the bench press. Bertrand did record the second most reps of any linebacker in attendance with 20. The former Irish linebacker was spotted in a boot on the sideline with an undisclosed injury.

LB MARIST LIUFAU - 6-2 ⅛”, 234 pounds

Like Bertrand, Liufau’s performance was very abbreviated. He did run a forty-yard dash title of 4.64, which is a very good number for a linebacker. Outside of that, Liufau did participate in the position drills and looked smooth doing so. He will be competing in the other testing drills on March 21st during the Notre Dame Pro Day. Liufau must continue to flash the length and athleticism to become a potential difference maker on the second level.

CB CAM HART - 6-3, 202 pounds

It was an incredible Combine performance for Hart, who measured in even bigger than he did at the 2024 Reese’s Senior Bowl. With 33 inch arms, a long frame and athletic profile, Hart is arguably the most impressive physical profile of any cornerback in Indianapolis. He didn’t test as a good athlete, Hart tested as an impressive athlete.

Here is Hart’s testing numbers from the workout.

40-Yard Dash: 4.50 seconds
Vertical Jump: 39.5 inches
Broad Jump: 10 feet, 10 inches
3-Cone Drill: 7.12 seconds
Short Shuttle: 4.24 seconds
Bench Press: 11 reps

There isn’t any indication how Hart checked out medically over the past few days. That will ultimately be what makes or breaks his evaluation but for now, Hart has aced every section of the draft process so far.
