Notre Dame Stars Joe Alt, Cam Hart Get Picked In The Latest ESPN Mock Draft
The NFL Scouting Combine is behind us, so mock draft opinions are going to change, and that will be true of former Notre Dame players as well. ESPN draft analyst Jordan Reid dropped his first post-combine mock draft, and he had a pair of former Notre Dame players being picked.
Reid's mock draft covered the first two rounds, and he had offensive tackle Joe Alt and cornerback Cam Hart both being selected.
Reid projected a quarterback to be taken with the first three picks, which made Alt the fourth non-quarterback to be taken. He projected the former Irish All-American offensive tackle to the Tennessee Titans at the No. 7 overall pick.
"Over the past two seasons, the Titans' left tackle spot has been a revolving door, and the team took 64 sacks last season (tied for fourth most). The 6-9, 321-pound Alt could solve the problem. He's equally as good as a run-blocker as he is in pass protection, with great power and above-average movement skills. Alt keeps getting better, too, as he only has three full seasons at the position after converting from tight end. Teaming him up with guard Peter Skoronski would give the Titans a formidable left side of the offensive line." - Jordan Reid
Alt to the Titans has been a popular mock draft projection since this draft cycle began. Reid has Alt being the first offensive lineman to be picked in this year's draft, which is relatively common among mock drafts from respected analysts.
Having Hart being taken in round two was a pleasant surprise for the former Irish standout. He has largely flown under the radar despite an outstanding 2023 campaign, but Reid clearly thinks very highly of the former Notre Dame cornerback.
Reid projects Hart to be taken No. 61 overall by the Detroit Lions.
"Hart is another prospect that will probably hear his name called earlier than most anticipate. Lions GM Brad Holmes has completely retooled the roster, but the secondary still sticks out as needing a lot of help. Detroit gave up 7.8 yards per pass attempt last season, 31st in the NFL. Hart is a versatile corner who can play in a variety of coverages." - Jordan Reid
The last time Notre Dame had a cornerback taken in the first two rounds was 1995 when the Philadelphia Eagles drafted Bobby Taylor, although Taylor was drafted more as a safety. If Hart does in fact get selected this high it would provide even more positive momentum for the Irish staff on the recruiting trail at that position.
