Illinois Standout Braeden Jones Couldn't Wait To Announce His Notre Dame Offer

Star 2026 Chicago defensive end Braeden Jones goes in depth on Notre Dame offer

It was a smaller group of local players that were offered during the Pot of Gold offer event on Sunday by Notre Dame. One player close by that the Irish are very high on is Chicago (Ill.) Mount Carmel defensive lineman Braeden Jones.

The 6-4, 235-pound defensive end is starting to gain a lot of traction from a recruiting perspective. He now holds offers from the Fighting Irish, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Iowa State and Akron. That list promises to grow very quickly, although he was just excited to finally let the world know about the recent offer from the Irish.

"I'm so excited about the offer,” Jones told Irish Breakdown. "I've been trying to keep Pot of Gold a secret for awhile. I couldn’t wait to announce my offer.”

This offer was more of a formality. Notre Dame has been pursuing Jones behind the scenes for a while now. He is a player they are very high on, and they have formed a strong bond with the Chicago native so far.

"Notre Dame is extremely similar to my school in relevance to alumni and traditions,” Jones explained. “I really like how the program is built. My relationship is really strong so far, especially out of all the colleges I've been offered by. Notre Dame has shown me so much love already and I call them at least twice a week.”

As a 2026 recruit, things are really just starting to kick off for Jones. He is enjoying the process so far and the momentum that is building.

"Recruiting overall has been going really well,” he said. "I picked up two offers in January and got the call from Notre Dame towards the end of the month. This month is really setting everything up for me.”

Notre Dame closing on the local talent they want is a massive priority for the program. That includes Jones, who is a high upside defensive end that the program needs more and more of.
