Notre Dame Commit Davion Dixon Is Excelling In A New Environment
It came as a little bit of a surprise when talented 2025 defensive tackle Davion Dixon committed to the Irish during this past Blue-Gold Game weekend. It was the first commitment in the 2025 recruiting class for Notre Dame, setting the table for what could be a great class overall.
Being committed isn’t the only change Dixon has experienced over the last few months. This offseason the talented defensive lineman also changed schools, going from Belen Jesuit to Miami Palmetto. That can be a transition for a high school junior, but it was one that Dixon excelled doing.
"It has been amazing,” Dixon told Irish Breakdown. "They welcomed me with open arms, but I knew I had to fight for my position. We've been working all summer and grinding.
"It took me a couple of days to get used to it but after I quickly started feeling comfortable,” he continued. "When I hit the groove, it was clear sailing.”
From a talent perspective, Palmetto is a very deep team. Dixon has made a ton of team and individual goals he hopes to accomplish the rest of the season. If he hits them it could be a junior season to remember.
"Our team looks pretty good from my perspective,” Dixon explained. "Of course there were things we needed to work on but I’m pretty sure that’s every team in America. Individually there’s things I can do better. I’m aware of that and work hard everyday.
"One of my season goals is to get 10 sacks,” he added. "I’m at six right now so I just need four more. Another thing I want to accomplish is to go deep in the playoffs.”
Despite the change of scenery, Dixon has quickly become a person that others can look up to. It’s a role he’s fallen in love with.
"I’ve seen my role as a leader expand,” he said. "It’s been really good. I’m the defensive line leader and it feels good to have people look up to me. They’re trying to follow the path I’m on.”
Dixon was an absolute menace as a sophomore. He finished second on the team with 70 total tackles, while also recording 33 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks. Dixon also posted 24 quarterback hurries, broke up five passes, forced a fumble, recovered another and blocked a kick.
Despite only being a junior, Dixon has heard from some of the programs in college football. The 6-2, 305-pound defender has received offers from the Irish, Miami, Florida, Nebraska, Penn State, Florida State, Auburn, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Louisville, West Virginia, and Syracuse among others.
Rivals currently has Dixon rated as a four-star recruit. They have him slotted as the No. 221 overall player and No. 11 defensive lineman in the 2025 recruiting class. Dixon is also rated as the No. 30 player in the state of Florida, a state that Notre Dame has had its troubles in the past, but that has already been improved in 2025.
