Notre Dame Has Clear Vision For Dynamic Defender Anthony Sacca
On Wednesday, the Notre Dame coaches were once again on the recruiting trail to visit the schools of several top 2025 and 2026 targets around the country. That included Al Golden stopping in at Philadelphia (Pa.) St. Joseph’s Prep to check in on 2025 star defender Anthony Sacca.
While these visits have limited contact between the coaches and athletes, most players appreciate the presence in general. It can mean a lot just for them to take time out of their day to make the trip. For Sacca, who is close to Coach Golden due to his relationship with his father, he was excited just to see him briefly.
“It was good to have Coach Golden at the school,” Sacca told Irish Breakdown. “He was here for well over an hour.”
Early on in recruiting processes, the pitch is usually about the overall fit as a person, student and player. Now that it’s getting deeper into the decision making process for Sacca, Golden has gotten a lot deeper into the scheme and how he potentially fits.
He already has a lot of plans for Sacca if he does choose the Irish.
“We have gotten on the whiteboard a little bit recently,” Sacca explained. “He basically drew up the defense and how they see me playing in their defense.
“They call it a combo backer,” he continued. “It is basically the rover but using them a little more all around the field. They like the versatility I could potentially bring.”
Sacca is in the process of setting up visits, including weekend stops at Penn State and Michigan. Coaches from all over are busy making their travels to St. Joseph’s Prep. Obviously times are busy, but it’s something that Sacca is used to.
“It is supposed to get busy in these next few weeks,” he said. “It is nothing I’m not used to at this point. Plus, I’m only going to be talking to my top schools moving forward mainly, so that’ll help manage everything.”
Overall, Notre Dame has done a tremendous job recruiting Sacca. They are in the top group of schools and are working diligently to get him back to campus soon.
The Philadelphia native was a huge reason that St. Joseph’s Prep finished with a 13-1 overall record and a state championship in 2023. Sacca finished with 67 total tackles and two interceptions on the season.
The Hawk’s only loss on the season came in the opener against IMG Academy, coming up just short 17-14. In the other 13 games, St. Joseph’s Prep outscored their opponents by a 565-133 point margin.
Sacca is considered a potentially elite player in the 2025 recruiting class. He is ranked as high as the No. 52 overall player and the No. 6 linebacker in the class by Rivals. Sacca is a near consensus four-star recruit by every major recruiting platform. The lone exception is On3, who has him pegged as a three-star, which shows they clearly know something that nobody else does including a list of notable suitors.
Some of the top schools who have offered, and are pursuing Sacca, include the Irish, Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, Miami, Penn State, USC, Oregon, Florida State, Texas A&M, Tennessee, South Carolina, Nebraska, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Kentucky, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Rutgers among others.
