Notre Dame Offer Was A "Great Moment" For Nasir Newkirk
On Wednesday, Notre Dame extended an offer to 2025 Greensboro (N.C.) Dudley wide receiver Nasir Newkirk, who is one of the more intriguing talents at the position in the 2025 recruiting class. A dual sport star for Dudley, Newkirk is also an outstanding basketball player for the school. As you can see, his football figure appears very bright.
"The offer was kind of unexpected but I was very excited because I know they are a big time program that plays great football,” Newkirk told Irish Breakdown. "It was a great moment.
"I have received love from pretty much every school that has offered me,” he added. "I’m blessed to be in the position I am.”
Newkirk, for whatever reason, has just begun to gain a ton of interest in football. The next few months are going to be about figuring out the recruiting landscape and begin to narrow things down. Notre Dame has definitely made an early impression on him.
"Their coaches have already shown love and interest towards me,” Newkirk explained. "I would really like to get up there to see how it feels in person. I’m setting up my junior days and all that now. Some dates are moving around so there is nothing set in stone for sure. I’m still working things out but checking out South Bend could be in the plans.”
As you can imagine, Newkirk has a lot of research and soul searching to do moving forward. He has some interesting options on the table and knows exactly what he’s looking for.
"I’m still weighing my options right now,” he said. "I am just looking for a school that takes football and academics very seriously.”
Newkirk has one of the weirder recruiting profiles that you are going to find. He is currently rated by only one major recruiting platform, sitting as a three-star and the No. 20 player in the state of North Carolina in the 2025 recruiting class according to Rivals.
Despite that, the North Carolina native is garnering the attention of several big time programs recently. His offer list has begun to expand steadily. Newkirk now holds offers from the Irish, Georgia, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin among several others.
The 6-2, 185-pound pass catcher put together a big time junior campaign for Dudley. In 15 games, Newkirk hauled in 51 receptions for 1,123 yards and 16 yards, averaging 22 yards per reception.
He was also a substantial contributor for the Panther defense. From his safety position, Newkirk collected 66 total tackles, two tackles for loss and broke up seven passes. He has scored 34 total touchdowns during his varsity career.
