Notre Dame Receiver Target Brandon Finney Is A "Rare Breed"
On Monday, Notre Dame extended an offer to Owings Mill (Md.) McDonogh School athlete Brandon Finney, who they see as a wide receiver potentially. Finney is a high upside athlete who has been garnering the attention of several impressive programs recently.
When you pop on Finney’s film, speed is what stands out quickly. Then to notice the length, presenting an impressive combination of physical gifts. According to McDonogh School head coach Hakeem Sule, Finney is an impressive athlete who is starting to put it all together.
“Brandon is really a special athlete,” Coach Sule told Irish Breakdown. “He’s really started to grow. I’ve had him since he was a freshman. You would see early on the flashes from Brandon. Then sophomore year, you saw it a lot more but it wasn’t consistent. Then this year, his confidence really took off.
“You saw a whole different character,” Sule continued. “Brandon was very confident, and he wanted to compete. Add in the track speed, as well as growing an inch and adding 10 pounds, and you have the special player you see now.”
Notre Dame extended the offer as a wide receiver, which makes a lot of sense when you pop on his highlights. Funny enough, most of Finney’s attention has come on defense, although he can do both.
“Brandon is a rare breed,” Sule explained. “He’s been offered mostly as a cornerback but then Notre Dame comes in and offers him as a wide receiver. He just wants to play and he’s going to evaluate what is the best situation for him.”
Finney was always an impressive athlete. You can see that from his production, film or track and field times. Finney took a massive jump as a junior, however, showing an uptick in demeanor. He really took his game to another level.
“He’s a high character kid but he has that competitive spirit,” said Sule. “He’s not shy of getting work and competing. That’s what really sets him apart.”
Finney has seen a massive rise on the recruiting side over the last couple of months. He now ranks as a four-star recruit by both On3 and ESPN. The latter has him ranked the highest, currently sitting as the No. 224 overall player and No. 15 athlete in the 2025 recruiting class.
The 6-2, 185-pound athlete has seen his offer list expand quickly. Some of the notable schools who have offered Finney include the Irish, Georgia, Oregon, Penn State, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin, South Carolina, Maryland, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Vanderbilt and Indiana among others.
As a junior, Finney put together a tremendous season on both sides of the football. On offense, he hauled in 51 receptions for 632 yards and four touchdowns. On defense, Finney recorded 22 total tackles, three interceptions and another pass breakup.
