Notre Dame Recruiting Visits vs USC - Defense Edition

Previewing the importing 2025 defensive recruits visiting Notre Dame for their game against USC

Defensive recruiting under Marcus Freeman has been tremendous. That has continued into the 2024 recruiting class, and early in the 2025 cycle as well.

This weekend, there will be a long list of talented recruits making the trip to Notre Dame for their battle against USC. Let’s take a look at every defensive recruit who is scheduled to be on campus, where things stand and what this visit could mean.

DEFENSIVE COMMITS ON CAMPUS

Notre Dame is set to host a nice portion of 2024 commits on campus this weekend, as well as pass rusher CJ May in the 2025 class. Anytime you can get so many commits on campus, it is a big deal for various reasons.

Not only will they be able to continue to grow their bond, but also help to recruit the uncommitted targets on the visit. There is an especially long list of defensive targets on the board who will be in South Bend, which means Notre Dame will hope to add to an already impressive early 2025 class.

DE Bryce Young - Charlotte (N.C.) Christian
DE Loghan Thomas - Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward
LB Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa - Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco
LB Teddy Rezac - Omaha (Neb.) Westside
S Brauntae Johnson - Indianapolis (Ind.) North Side
S Kennedy Urlacher - Chandler (Ariz.) High School

DE CJ May (2025) - Highland Home (Al.) High School

DEFENSIVE TARGETS ON CAMPUS

Here is every Irish defensive target who is scheduled to visit campus this weekend.

DE Damien Shanklin - Indianapolis (Ind.) Warren Central

An in-state target, Notre Dame initially extended an offer to Shanklin early in August. Since then, the staff has kept very close ties with him. That relationship has really been developing well over the last couple of months.

DE Austin Alexander - Burlington (Ky.) Cooper

This will be Alexander’s third trip to campus. The previous visit was during the team’s game against Tennessee State. Before then, Alexander had not been to campus in a year. He is the nephew of former Seattle Seahawk star running back Shaun Alexander, and is an impressive athlete himself.

LB/DE Dominik Hulak - Elmhurst (Ill.) Immaculate Conception

Hulak has been on Notre Dame’s radar for some time now. He is a physically advanced linebacker who also has the body type and play style to project as a Vyper on the next level. That versatility is a big sell to the Irish staff.

LB Noah Mikhail - La Verne (Calif.) Bonita

Mikhail was offered in early November of last year. When he was offered, the California native called Notre Dame his dream school. This will be Mikhail's second trip to campus, which could end up being a very important one, especially with so much competition for the talented defender.

LB Brett Clatterbaugh - Culpeper (Va.) Eastern View

This will be Clatterbaugh’s second time on campus. The Virginia native is being pursued by some of the top schools in college football. Notre Dame has been one of the main programs who has kept consistent contact.

CB Cree Thomas - Phoenix (Ariz.) Brophy Prep

The former teammate of current Irish star Benjamin Morrison, Thomas is very high on Notre Dame. They have been viewed as the front runner for Thomas for some time now. With a big visit, they have a chance to really distance themselves with the talented defensive back.

CB Charles Bell - Oakdale (Conn.) St. Thomas More

Bell camped at Notre Dame this offseason and impressed enough to earn a scholarship offer. He has said great things about the Irish and this visit will hope to continue momentum. The state of Connecticut has quietly become a solid area for Notre Dame to target talent.

CB Kevyn Humes - Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy

St. Frances Academy has several top defensive players that Notre Dame has been targeting. That includes Humes, who will be making his second trip to campus. The Maryland native has been very receptive to Notre Dame and should have another tremendous visit.

S Trey McNutt - Cleveland (Ohio) Shaker Heights

This will be McNutt’s third visit to campus since being offered during the Pot of Gold offer event on St. Patrick’s Day. In the end, McNutt is going to be a tough pull away from Ohio State but Notre Dame is clearly garnering a lot of interest. Having a big performance on Saturday could go a long way in this particular recruitment.
