The Ohio State Buckeyes' tremendous run in the NCAA Women's Tournament came to an end Monday night with a ten-point loss to Virginia Tech, 84-74.

The Buckeyes got off to a hot start with 25 points in the first quarter compared to Virginia Tech's 22. However, this was the only frame in which Ohio State led the Hokies, as Virginia Tech won the last three quarters 26-20, 15-10, and 21-19.

Ohio State senior guard Taylor Mikesell finished with 25 points, two steals, and a 7-of-10 shooting clip from three-point range. Freshman forward Cotie McMahon was slightly behind Mikesell with 18 points to close out her first NCAA Tournament.

The Buckeyes shot 45.6% from the field in the game, along with an even 35 percent from beyond the arc and 88.2% at the free throw line.

Ohio State led the Hokies in assists with 11 compared to Virginia Tech's ten and six steals against their opponents' three. Virginia Tech got the better of the Buckeyes in total rebounds 32-24, as well as blocks, four to one.

The Hokies advance to the NCAA Women's Tournament's Final Four in Dallas, Texas, where they will take on the third-seeded LSU Tigers.

The Buckeyes, though their tournament run is over, return to Columbus having reached the NCAA Women's Elite Eight for the first time in 30 years, and a record of 28-8 on the year.

Ohio State will regroup in the offseason, take measure of their personnel gains and losses and aim to return to the tournament in 2024.
