Ohio State Blown Out By Northwestern In Embarrassing Loss
The Ohio State Buckeyes suffered their seventh loss of the season, falling 83-58 to the Northwestern Wildcats.
The Buckeyes have now lost both of their last two road games following a home victory against the Penn State Nittany Lions almost a week ago.
Sophomore guards Bruce Thornton and Roddy Gayle Jr. were the only two Buckeyes to record double-digit points against the Wildcats. Nine of the 11 Ohio State players to see the floor scored, with each contributing five points or less.
The poor offensive night was mainly due to Ohio State’s abysmal shooting from the field. Over the course of the game, the Buckeyes made just 14 of their 41 total shot attempts from the floor, and five of their 21 tries from behind the three-point line.
On the bright side, those aforementioned shooting clips seemed to be the lone thorn in Ohio State’s side. The Buckeyes were out-rebounded by just two boards and trailed Northwestern’s rate from the free-throw line by less than a percent (76.5-75.8).
Ohio State has yet to win away from home this season, with five of their losses coming at Penn State, Indiana, Michigan, Nebraska, and now Northwestern. In total, the Buckeyes have been outscored 393-338 over these five contests.
Additionally, Saturday’s 25-point loss was Ohio State’s largest margin of defeat this season. The Buckeyes’ schedule will not get any easier from here, especially with their next contest coming against the No. 10 Illinois Fighting Illini.
Tip-off between Ohio State and Illinois is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 30. Coverage of the game will air live on Peacock, NBC’s streaming service.
