Ohio State Defeats Maryland, Wins Fourth-Straight Contest
The Ohio State Buckeyes continued their hot streak Wednesday night, knocking off the Maryland Terrapins, 84-76.
Each of the Buckeyes' five starters scored in double digits, something that head coach Kevin McGuff was quick to point out following the game.
"I think it was a great effort," McGuff said. "Cotie McMahon, Rebeka Mikulášiková, Taylor Thierry, Celeste Taylor – everyone. It was a focused effort. We didn't have our best shooting night in the first half and the way to overcome that is to get second-chance opportunities."
Mikulášiková led Ohio State with 20 points. McMahon and Thierry finished with nine rebounds each, and Sheldon assisted on five Buckeyes shots before the final buzzer.
The shooting slump to which McGuff was referring is two-fold. Ohio State came out of the gates struggling to drop in buckets, but finished the game at 46.2% and a 51.5% clip in the second half.
Additionally, Ohio State went just 11-20 from the free-throw line in the second half but ended the game at a 20-of-30 rate and nailed eight of 14 in the fourth quarter.
Each of the ten Buckeyes who saw the floor recorded at least a bucket, helping to push the Scarlet and Gray to their fourth-straight win. Ohio State will now look ahead to their toughest contest of the season on Sunday when they host projected-No. 1 pick Caitlin Clark and the No. 2 Iowa Hawkeyes.
Tip-off between the Buckeyes and the Hawkeyes is set for noon at Value City Arena, with coverage airing on NBC and its streaming service, Peacock.
