3 NFL Finalists Emerge For Ohio State RB Ezekiel Elliott
Following his release from the Dallas Cowboys last week, former Ohio State Buckeyes star Ezekiel Elliott was thought to have few options in terms of where to go next.
In large part, those feelings were based on the state of the NFL running back market, which has become an increasingly difficult place this offseason.
However, according to reports from NFL insider Adam Schefter, it appears that Elliott could be close to finding his new home, with three finalists - The Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets, and Cincinnati Bengals - all making the cut.
For Elliott, each of the three potential landing spots makes sense in its own way.
On the one hand, playing for a Super Bowl contender in the Eagles, which would also give him a chance to take his frustrations out on the Cowboys twice per year, is an easy sell.
Meanwhile, the Jets are making sweeping moves and look like a much-improved team in the world's biggest sports market.
Meanwhile, the Bengals are one that could stand out above the rest.
Why?
Outside of a return to Ohio - where Elliott thrived for three years with the Buckeyes - joining one of the NFL's best offenses with Joe Burrow, Joe Mixon, Jamarr Chase, Tee Higgins and others, would put him in a position to succeed easily, and without enormous expectations.
Certainly, the Jets and Eagles have elements of those advantages themselves.
However, at least in our view, the Bengals are the best fit for Elliott at the current time.
Either way, Elliott hopes to have a decision by the end of next week, per the report.
In his seven years in Dallas, rushed for over 1,000 yards in three of those seasons. While, in two of those seasons, finishing just shy at 983 yards (2017) and 979 Yards (2020).
And in both of those seasons, Elliott did not play a full season, missing six games in 2017 and one game in 2020.
