'Like Mike Vick': Former Buckeyes DE Nick Bosa Heaps High Praise For QB Justin Fields
One former Ohio State Buckeye has high praise for another.
Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields was teased by NFL Films as a top 100 in a video on Twitter Thursday. In Fields' promotional video, reigning Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa had high praise for the Bears signal-caller.
"He's probably the best running quarterback I've seen," Bosa said. "Like Mike Vick out there."
Fields will be the first Chicago quarterback to crack the NFL Top 100 list since its inception in 2011.
Last season, the Kennesaw, GA. native ran for 1,143 yards and eight touchdowns, which was the seventh-best mark in the NFL last season. The closest quarterback to Fields' rushing total was Lamar Jackson, who ran for nearly 400 yards less.
The former Buckeyes quarterback was in pretty good company, trailing running backs Josh Jacobs, Derrick Henry, Nick Chubb, Saquon Barkley, Miles Sanders and Dalvin Cook in yards gained on the ground.
The 11th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft had untapped potential his rookie season, but once the Bears used him as a runner, he blossomed into the top-100 player his peers believe he is. Fields' 178 yards on the ground against the Miami Dolphins were the third-most in a game last season.
"You really underestimate how fast he is until he gets out in that open field," Houston Texans defensive end Jerry Hughes said. "In the huddle, we were like, 'Dang, OK, young guy can run.'"
Fields' numbers through the air weren't nearly as impressive, completing just 60.4 percent of his passes for 2,242 yards, 17 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. However, the Bears made a splash in the offseason and traded for former Panthers wide receiver D.J. Moore.
"I think his throwing ability is going to keep getting better," Bosa said.
