LOOK: Former Ohio State QB CJ Stroud Debuts New Houston Texans Threads

The rookie signal caller will trade in his scarlet and gray for blue and red as he makes his professional football debut this season.

Former Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud premiered his new look on Instagram Wednesday as he prepares to begin his rookie season in the National Football League (NFL).

Stroud was chosen No. 2 overall by the Houston Texans during the 2023 NFL Draft back in April after playing three seasons for the Buckeyes.

Stroud began his time with the Scarlet and Gray in 2020, but began to make a name for himself the following season. The Rancho Cucamonga, California-native exploded onto the scene in 2021, converting 71% of his passes for 4,400 yards and 44 touchdowns.

In his senior season, Stroud hit 66% of his targets for fewer yards and scores than the year prior, but led the Buckeyes to a College Football Playoff (CFP) berth.

The 6-foot-3 Stroud threw for 348 yards and four touchdowns against the No. 1-ranked Georgia Bulldogs in the 2023 Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl. The Buckeyes fell one point short of a spot in the National Championship however, losing 42-41.

Stroud was projected to be a top-10 pick in the NFL Draft, and was even thought to be in contention to be the first overall choice in a majority of pre-draft talks. The Panthers, owners of the No. 1 selection, elected to go with Georgia quarterback Bryce Young instead.

The expectations for Stroud's first season in the big leagues aren't any lower than they would have been if he'd been the player to lead off the draft, however.

It is at the moment unclear if Houston will look to Stroud to start their Week One game against the Baltimore Ravens. If they do, the young signal caller will have to think on his feet and grow as he goes, something he has done before at Ohio State.
