Buckeyes RB Chip Trayanum Scores Second TD In As Many Plays
The Ohio State Buckeyes' offense is rolling now.
After forcing a turnover on downs, Ohio State's next offensive play was a 40-yard touchdown run by running back Chip Trayanum — his first career touchdown as a Buckeye — to give Ohio State a 28-10 lead over the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. The last offensive play Ohio State had ran before Trayanum's tote was a 75-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Kyle McCord to wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.
Trayanum has been a Swiss Army knife for the Buckeyes' offense, garnering praise from Buckeyes legend Maurice Clarett after Week 1. Clarett said Trayanum "runs very similar" to the way he did during his 1,237-yard, 16-touchdown season in the Buckeyes' national-championship-winning 2002 season.
The Akron, Ohio, native has been the running back in the first two weeks to gash defenses, setting up a short-yardage touchdown for either Miyan Williams or TreVeyon Henderson.
However, this time around Trayanum took it upon himself to find the end zone.
Ohio State slid its protection to the left, creating a crease down the middle for Trayanum to run full steam ahead. Trayanum made Hilltoppers linebacker Anthony Breckenridge and defensive back Talique Allen miss and out-ran defensive back T.J. Springer in his race for six.
Trayanum currently has 51 yards on four carries for one touchdown against the Hilltoppers, as his season rushing total is currently at 128 yards — more than he had all of last season when he notched 92 yards on 15 carries.
Ohio State currently has 125 yards and three rushing touchdowns — the other two coming courtesy of Henderson — at halftime against Western Kentucky.
