Ohio State Fans Rip Clemson's Dabo Swinney on Twitter
The Ohio State Buckeyes certainly had their fair share of critics after winning their season-opening game against the Indiana Hoosiers by 20 points, far less than most had expected.
However, the flack that the Buckeyes endured was nothing compared to that which came to the then-No. 9 Clemson Tigers and head coach Dabo Swinney.
The Tigers fell 28-7 to the unranked Duke Blue Devils on Monday. This marked the first win for the Blue Devils against a top-10 opponent since 1989, and their first triumph over the Tigers in 19 years.
Among those hurling comments towards Swinney and the Tigers on social media were Ohio State fans, who still hold a grudge with the Clemson head coach from the end of the 2020 season.
Three years ago, Swinney ranked the Buckeyes No. 11 on his College Football Coach's Poll submission. The Clemson helmsman's ballot was the only one to place Ohio State outside of the top-five teams.
A few weeks later, the Buckeyes and Tigers met at the Caesars Superdome for the 2021 All-State Sugar Bowl. Ohio State dominated Clemson 49-28, punching their ticket to the National Championship game against Alabama.
The Tigers had played for a national title four times in the six seasons between 2015 and 2020, and qualified for the College Football Playoff (CFP) in every year of that time span. Since that aforementioned loss to the Buckeyes, Clemson has gone 21-8.
The latest AP College Football rankings dropped Clemson from No. 9 heading into their opener with Duke to now No. 25, the lowest position a team can be while still being ranked.
Can Swinney and the Tigers get back on track with a win on Saturday against Charleston Southern, or will Buckeyes fans have more to brag about next week?
