Buckeyes Land Commitment From No. 1 Ohio CB Bryce West
The Ohio State Buckeyes' secondary flaunts that their unit and standard is the "Best In America." Now, they landed one of the best in cornerbacks in America.
Class of 2024 cornerback Bryce West, the top player in Ohio and the No. 4 cornerback in the country, announced his commitment to the Buckeyes. This is one of the bigger recruiting wins for Ohio State on the 2024 trail, as West chose the Buckeyes over arch-rival Michigan — an importance that can't be overstated with them losing back-to-back games against the Wolverines.
West is the Buckeyes' fourth top-50 recruit in the cycle and, at No. 49 overall, trails wide receivers Jeremiah Smith (No. 3) and Mylan Graham (No. 20) and quarterback Air Noland (No. 37) in their recruiting class.
The Glenville High School product did not allow a touchdown and intercepted four passes during his junior season en route to a state title.
At 5-11, 177 pounds, the Cleveland native uses his 10.93-second 100-meter dash pedigree to lockdown any of the fastest receivers. That straight-line speed is shown in breaking on the football or making up ground when beat in coverage.
West is the ninth-highest-rated cornerback recruit in program history, trailing good company in Ted Ginn Jr., Jeff Okudah, Donte Whitner, Jamario O'Neal, Shaun Wade, Damon Webb, Jermaine Mathews and Eli Apple.
The Buckeyes might not be done recruiting the position, either.
Ohio State is still in the top five for cornerback Aaron Scott Jr., the No. 5 cornerback overall and the No. 2 player in the Buckeye State. The Buckeyes are competing against Michigan, Oregon, Tennessee and Penn State.
This is all while getting a commitment from No. 20 safety Jaylen McClain June 12.
