The Ohio State Buckeyes have a well-known identity in the Brian Hartline era of bringing in the top wide receiver recruits, developing them and getting them drafted to the NFL.

The Buckeyes have done that the past two seasons and will continue to do that for as long as Hartline is around, something that class of 2024 wide receiver commit Jeremiah Smith notices and takes to heart in his decision to eventually become a Buckeye.

"I know where I want to be," Smith told Lettermen Row. "I want to be a first-round draft pick like Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and soon Marvin Harrison Jr., so that's what I'm going to do and I'm going to do that at Ohio State."

Smith is a consensus top-five player in the class of 2024 and, despite committing to the Buckeyes early in the recruiting cycle, he kept his options open.

He took official visits to Georgia, Florida and Miami in addition to Ohio State.

"Coach Hartline gets fired, coaching changes, coach Hartline might get a job offer in the NFL, he might take it," Smith told BuckeyesNow in March. "So I got to keep that relationship open with all the coaches. So I ain't really going to cut nobody off."

This was met with a lot of backlash, but Smith has remained firm, reassuring Buckeye Nation that he's not going anywhere while also teaming up with fellow 2024 commit, quarterback Air Noland, to even try and build up the Buckeyes' recruiting class.

The wide receiver standard has been set at Ohio State under Hartline, which is why, in addition to Smith, it holds another five-star 2024 commitment from pass-catcher Mylan Graham.

The Buckeyes also may not be done just yet either, as they are trending in the right direction for four-stars Jeremiah McClellan and Elijah Moore.
