The Buckeyes and Penguins take the field at Ohio Stadium on Saturday, September 9 on Big Ten Network.

The Ohio State Buckeyes return home to Columbus to host the Youngstown State Penguins in a non-conference game on Saturday.

This weekend’s contest at Ohio Stadium marks the first time the Buckeyes and Penguins have squared off against each other in 15 years.

Ohio State and Youngstown State have met only twice previously, with the Buckeyes prevailing in both contests. The last time the Buckeyes and Penguins met was August 30, 2008 at Ohio Stadium.

Buckeyes starting quarterback Todd Boeckman went 14-of-19 through the air for 187 yards and two touchdowns. Two of Ohio State’s back-up quarterbacks took over later in the game, one of whom was Terrelle Pryor Sr.

A future seven-year player in the National Football League (as a quarterback and receiver), Pryor completed four of his six pass attempts against the Penguins for 35 yards.

The only other game between the Buckeyes and Penguins was on September 1, 2007. Ohio State got the victory, 38-6.

Both Ohio State and Youngstown State enter this weekend’s matchup with undefeated records, having won their season-openers last Saturday.

The Buckeyes opened their season last weekend against the Indiana Hoosiers. Ohio State got the win 23-3, in front of a hostile crowd at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Indiana.

Junior quarterback Kyle McCord started the game for the Buckeyes, tallying 239 yards on a 20-of-33 conversion rate passing the football. Sophomore Devin Brown also made it into the game behind center, completing one of his three pass attempts for -2 yards.

Youngstown State prevailed on their home field against the Valparaiso Beacons, 52-10. Senior quarterback Mitch Davidson finished 11-of-19 with 130 yards and a touchdown, while senior running back Tyshon King ended with 11 carries, 111 yards and two scores.

Ohio State and Youngstown State kick off from inside Ohio Stadium at noon on Saturday, September 9, on Big Ten Network.
