Ohio State 'Is Falling Apart & Recruits See It,’ Says Ex Michigan WR Braylon Edwards

The rivalry between Michigan and Ohio State is getting a little more personal.
In this story:

Former Michigan Wolverines and NFL receiver Braylon Edwards said Wednesday that the Ohio State Buckeyes football program is "falling apart."

This and similar comments from Edwards about the state of Buckeye football following two straight losses to the school they call "That Team Up North" were made on his podcast, "Ermanni & Edwards."

"That program is falling apart and recruits can see it," Edwards said.

But, other than the heated rivalry of course, what’s the reason for these comments?

Speaking as if he were in the position of quarterback Jadyn Davis (a five-star quarterback recruit who recently chose Michigan over Ohio State) Edwards said that his decision of where to play would be clear, given the two schools' passing numbers.

"Why, if I'm one of the best quarterbacks in the country, why would I choose a school that hasn't had a 1,000-yard receiver since Jeremy Gallon?" Edwards said. "Why would I choose a place that doesn't throw the ball like that?"

Edwards said that Davis could have become a star at the position if he had committed to Ohio State, given the Buckeyes' success developing quarterbacks at the college level, but that the overall culture of Michigan was more of an incentive for the young player.

"Why would I choose that place over Ohio State where I know I could easily be a (Dwayne) Haskins, C.J. Stroud, or Justin Fields and just fall in line?" Edwards said. "It's because this program's not as good as that program in Ann Arbor."

Edwards finished by saying Ohio State was a powerhouse on the decline, and that the rest of the incoming college football recruits could sense it along with him.

The Wolverines have gotten the better of the Buckeyes in their last two meetings in 2021 and 2022, but Ohio State had defeated Michigan in each of the eight contests prior to that pair.

Additionally, the Scarlet and Gray have defeated the Maize and Blue in 17 of their last 20 games since 2002.

The battle for 2023 recruits and transfer-portal talent is on-going, but how Michigan and Ohio State compare to each other at the end will be a solid indicator of whether Edwards' comments are accurate, or off the mark.
