Ohio State Adds Minnesota Transfer Jamison Battle
Jamison Battle does know a thing or two about winning at Value City Arena, as he helped his Minnesota Golden Gophers upset the Ohio State Buckeyes 70-67 Jan. 12.
Now, he’ll have the opportunity to do some more winning in Columbus, except now donning the scarlet and gray.
On Thursday, Battle announced that he’ll be transferring to Ohio State from Minnesota — the first such addition head coach Chris Holtmann has picked up in the portal this offseason. Battle is the first of multiple pieces to come in to try and replace the losses of former forwards Brice Sensabaugh and Justice Sueing, who entered the NBA draft March 25 and March 30, respectively.
247Sports’ Travis Branham crystal-balled Battle to the Buckeyes Wednesday, as a four-star transfer recruit with a transfer rating of 93.
Battle averaged 12.5 points per game on 37.5 percent from the field and 3.8 rebounds per game in 26 games last season. Battle notched at least 20 points in six, including a 31-point performance against Illinois Feb. 20.
In his freshman season in 2021-22, Battle averaged 17.5 points on 45 percent in 29 games, pulling down 6.3 rebounds per contest. He scored a career-high 39 points against Maryland March 2, 2022.
Every year since Holtmann took over, he has utilized the transfer portal. Last season, the Buckeyes had the services of West Virginia's Sean McNeil, Oklahoma State's Isaac Likekele, Wright State's Tanner Holden and The Citadel's Owen Spencer.
