Ryan Day Calls Out Lou Holtz After Ohio State Win vs. Notre Dame

The Ohio State Buckeyes scored an emotional victory against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and head coach Ryan Day called out Lou Holtz after the win.

The No. 6 Ohio State Buckeyes pulled off a miraculous game-winning touchdown to beat the No. 9 Notre Dame Fighting Irish in an emotional fashion.

Head coach Ryan Day was fired up after the win, and took a moment to call out Lou Holtz who discredited the Buckeyes' toughness on "The Pat McAfee Show" Friday.

"I'd like to know where Lou Holtz is right now," Day said on NBC's postgame broadcast. "What he said about our team, I cannot believe. This is a tough team right here. We're proud to be from Ohio, and it's always been Ohio against the world and it'll continue to be Ohio against the world. But, I'll tell you what, I love those kids. We got a tough team."

"Toughness. Everybody's questioning these kids all the time. We had one bad half the last couple of years. That's it. Everybody wants to question these guys. These guys are warriors right here to come back and win. This kid came back in the second half and won. I'm emotional about this for a reason. A lot of people question these kids and say a lot of things about them. I love them. When someone attacks your family, to come in and win like this is special. It's a great win for our program and a great win for Ohio State."

Day doubled down on his comments postgame.

"I hope everybody in Buckeye Nation enjoys that win because to come in here to win like that after winning the way we did last year — because we physically got after them last year," Day said. "A lot of people make a lot of comments and don't watch film. Put the film on and watch what goes on.

"The momentum was going with Notre Dame at one point, and our guys put their foot in the ground and J.T. (Tuimoloau) makes a big-time play. And the guts of our team to go and win that game on the road. You're going to tell me this team's not physical and not tough? You're wrong."

So what exactly did Holtz say?

“We have the best offensive line in the country, Sam Hartman won’t even get his jersey dirty all year. He has time to throw the football," Holtz said. "The offensive line, we have great running backs. Estime is averaging about 10 yards a carry. We have great receivers. So offensively, we’re set. Defensively, our defensive line’s better.

"You look at coach Day. He has lost to Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, and Michigan twice and everybody beats him because they’re more physical than Ohio State.

"Forget who in the hell we're playing. You take this message to Ohio State. You tell them they better bring their lunch because it's going to be a full damn day's work."

It's clear that Ohio State's lunch pail had just one extra sandwich in it.
