Ohio State Buckeyes Score Early, Lead Minnesota Golden Gophers At Halftime
The Ohio State Buckeyes entered their Saturday matchup vs. the Minnesota Golden Gophers in what some might consider a trap game. And with a date with the No. 3 Michigan Wolverines just a week away, it is easy to see why.
However, despite those concerns, the Buckeyes have come out firing early, scoring an early touchdown on a run from TreVeyon Henderson to take a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.
The run came from nine yards out on the Buckeyes' first drive of the game, after forcing an early Minnesota punt on a three-and-out.
The Buckeyes would go on to force another Minnesota punt after a five-play 19-yard drive, giving the ball back to the Buckeyes with 91 yards to go.
After trading punts on the next two drives, the Gophers were able to get something going and get into Buckeyes territory for the first time for the afternoon. However, Ohio State was able to get the stop, forcing another punt.
The Buckeyes then cashed that stop in with back-to-back field goals on their next two drives, extending their lead to two scores at 13-0.
From there, the Buckeyes defense would force the Gophers into yet another punt - their fifth consecutive stop of the day. Ohio State attempted to push the ball down the field for another score but was unable to get anything going, heading into the locker room with the two-score lead.
The Buckeyes will receive the ball to start the second half, hoping to extend their lead.
