Ohio State LB Steele Chambers Discusses Absence of Eichenberg During Spring Practices

Chambers has been leader of the defensive secondary while Eichenberg recovers from an off-season surgery.

The Ohio State defensive secondary will feature a familiar face this season, as senior linebacker Steele Chambers is returning to spend his final year of eligibility with the Buckeyes.

Chambers is without his usual partner-in-crime for Spring practices as senior linebacker Tommy Eichenberg is away recovering from off-season surgery.

The absence of Eichenberg is not optimal as the Buckeyes look to return to the college football playoff this coming season, but making the situation better is the opportunity to see how some of the younger players fit into the defensive system.

"It just gives them more opportunity just to go out there and show their stuff," Chambers said. "Everyone in that room is athletic, strong, smart. Just students of the game, and now they just get more reps, they get more opportunities to go out there and show coach what they've got."

Chambers said that senior linebacker Cody Simon has been particularly impressive due to his work in the offseason and is ready to have more time on the field thrown his way.

"Tommy's my guy, but I mean we got Cody (Simon) out there," Chambers said. "He's doing a hell of a job. He probably had one of the better winters that anyone's had here. He's smart as hell, great dude, basically, another Tommy."

The law firm of Chambers & Eichenberg will once again serve the Buckeyes on the field this season.

Despite only having partial representation on the field this spring, the dynamic duo will be rewarded with some necessary depth in the form of Simon and others.
