No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Maryland Terrapins: How to Watch, Betting Odds
The No. 4 Buckeyes host the Maryland Terrapins on Saturday in a matchup between undefeated teams. Ohio State hopes to hold ground atop the Big Ten with a win, while Maryland would like to make a statement to the rest of the league with an upset while remaining undefeated.
The Buckeyes sit at 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the Big Ten after a league win over Indiana to open the season. Ohio State has also notched wins over Youngstown State, Western Kentucky, and its biggest test this year, Notre Dame last week. Maryland is 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Big Ten after wins over Michigan State and Indiana over the past two weeks. The Terrapins started the season with victories against Towson, Charlotte, and Virginia.
The 17-14 last-second victory over Notre Dame was a signature win for Buckeyes signal-caller Kyle McCord, who sat for two seasons behind C.J. Stroud. But that win was nearly two weeks ago, and Ohio State coach Ryan Day wants more from McCord.
“It's like I was told as a young quarterback, once you come home with an ‘A’ in algebra, you're expected get an ‘A’ in algebra all the time," Day said. “Now you're seeing what Kyle can do. That's now the expectation."
A victory Saturday at the Horseshoe could be another statement win for McCord, as Maryland has blown out everyone it's played so far. But the Buckeyes will be the Terrapins' biggest test to date. For Maryland, it's a big game, and coach Mike Locksley knows his team needs no extra motivation.
“We don’t need to play the fight song in the locker room this week. This isn’t one of those weeks where gimmicks are going to get the job done,” he said. “For us it’s about earning the respect we feel we deserve, an opportunity to compete against one of the best teams in our conference the last few years. I know our players are excited.”
