Ohio State's Win Over Notre Dame is One for the History Books

Running back Chip Trayanum punched in a walk-off touchdown with one second left will be a moment Buckeyes fans won’t soon forget.

The No. 6 Ohio State Buckeyes pulled off one of their most impressive regular season wins in the Ryan Day era on Saturday night, walking off the No. 9 Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 17-14.

Running back Chip Trayanum giving the Buckeyes the lead with one tick left on the game clock will undoubtedly stick in the minds of Buckeyes fans for the rest of the season and beyond.

A scoreless first quarter stunned both Buckeyes and Fighting Irish fans alike, who had expected an offensive shootout between the two teams. A pregame scoring line of 55.5 points was not even close to the final, thanks largely to a mixture of missed opportunities on offense and crucial stops on defense.

However, It is safe to say Ohio State fans will remember this game as Chip Trayanum’s breakout performance at running back. Not because of gaudy stats, but because of timely plays, including the game-winning touchdown.

Suffice it to say, Ohio State was not at its best for the majority of the game but pulled things together when it mattered late in the game.

The Buckeyes will use their upcoming bye week to iron out the few remaining issues they have from Saturday’s game and the others from the season’s first three weekends.

Among those issues left to fix are defensive penalties, (which almost derailed the Ohio State comeback more than once), and more consistency for Marvin Harrison Jr. and the other playmakers, who took a while to get going against the Irish.

After that, the Bucks will return home to take on the Maryland Terrapins at Ohio Stadium, likely with a top-5 ranking.
