Saturday's Ohio State Buckeyes, Michigan Wolverines Game Set to Be Most Expensive Since 2011
Seats to the greatest rivalry in college sports are going to cost a pretty penny this year.
The No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes and No. 3 Michigan Wolverines square off this Saturday, November 25th in the latest installment of a heated series that dates back to 1897.
Fans wishing to catch the annual matchup will have to pay the most they have for tickets since 2011. According to TicketIQ, the cheapest tickets for the contest between the Buckeyes and Wolverines are exchanging hands on the secondary market for $676.
This get-in price is the highest it's been in over a decade, having been as low as $120 just 12 years ago. Even in 2013, resale tickets for the game could be found as low as $80 per person.
For last year's game between Ohio State and Michigan in Columbus, Ohio, the cheapest secondary tickets cost fans $380. That is an almost 44% markup and an additional $296 per seat in just one year's time.
There are a number of factors that could be responsible for the hike in prices. The winner of Saturday's game will not only carry bragging rights for the next 365 days but also preserve their undefeated record and (most likely) earn a spot in the College Football Playoff (CFP).
Regardless of the reason, the decision of whether or not to pay almost twice as much as even last year to see the rivalry in person is up to one group only: the fans.
The Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines kick things off at 12 p.m. this Saturday, November 25. Live coverage of the heated rivalry will air nationwide on FOX.
