Tommy Eichenberg, Ohio State Captains Vocal in Their Own Way

The graduate linebacker and his fellow Buckeye leaders may be known for their quiet personas, but can turn up the volume when the situation demands them to.

Ohio State Buckeyes linebacker Tommy Eichenberg is known to be a man of very few words, at least when he's not wearing football pads.

Despite being 'as quiet as a church mouse' (as the popular saying goes), the graduate linebacker and his fellow captains of the Buckeyes football team are more than capable of getting loud whenever situations arise.

Ryan Day told reporters, while they may know the soft-spoken side of Eichenberg, a different version suits up and leads the Buckeyes during practices and games.

"I think Tommy (Eichenberg) does have a pretty strong voice out there on the field," Day said. "I agree with you. I think off the field he's a man of few words, but you can feel, you can hear him."

The Cleveland, Ohio native has had plenty of time to prove his leadership abilities to the Ohio State coaching staff, but Day said some of the less-seasoned players on this year's roster could one day end up commanding the squad as well.

"(Eichenberg) has passion, he has intensity and he runs the defense out there," Day said. "I think the more you some of the other guys, the more that they continue to build confidence this season, you'll start to see that more and more."

Last weekend against the Youngstown State Penguins, Eichenberg recorded six tackles, along with a sack and a forced fumble.

Eichenberg and the No. 6 Buckeyes take the field for their second consecutive game at Ohio Stadium when they host the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers on Saturday at 4 p.m. Eastern on FOX.
