Upset Brewing? A Recent History Of Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Purdue Boilermakers

The Ohio State Buckeyes have not faired well in West Lafayette against the Purdue Boilermakers in recent years.
In this story:

Although The Ohio State Buckeyes and Purdue Boilermakers are at near-opposite ends of the Big Ten this year, the teams have been battling this century — the Boilermakers have kept it shockingly close in a few games and have had resounding success at home.

All-time, the Buckeyes lead the series 41-15-2, but let’s look at after 2000 — Ohio State still leads 9-5 since then and hasn’t lost at home.

But this game is in West Lafayette, Indiana, where Purdue has picked up all five of its wins to three losses. Their first win came in 2000 when Drew Brees threw for 455 yards and three fourth-quarter touchdowns, including a go-ahead 64-yarder with 1:55 remaining in a 31-27 toss-up.

Between then and 2010, at home, Purdue had a close 10-6 loss in 2002, a 24-17 win in 2004, a 23-7 loss in 2007, and a 26-18 upset win.

Since 2010, Purdue is 2-1 at home. The first matchup in 2011 was an overtime win for the Boilermakers over a Braxton Miller-led Ohio State.

The next one was a 56-0 shutout for the Buckeyes.

The last home game for the Boilermakers was one Buckeye fans surely want to forget — wide receiver Rondale Moore had 170 yards and two touchdowns to eventually eliminate Ohio State from playoff contention.

Purdue has recent history on its side, and with the Buckeyes looking vulnerable in the last few weeks, anything is possible.

The Boilermakers and Buckeyes kick off at noon on Saturday, with the game streaming exclusively on Peacock.
