Ohio State CB Davison Igbinosun Named to 'Most Impactful' Transfers List

After a single season at Ole Miss, Davison Igbinosun is looking to have a breakout season for the Buckeyes, and so far, that is what is expected of him ahead of next year, as he was named the No. 17 overall most impactful transfer across the board.

One of the biggest hallmarks of a successful college football program comes in the ability to maintain a steady flow of talent year in and year out.

The Ohio State Buckeyes have done that, earning their way to 10 straight New Year's Six bowl games dating back to the 2013-14 season.

Former coach Urban Meyer played a big role in that stretch, and current coach Ryan Day has since continued to keep the Buckeyes near the top of the rankings every season, but he's also utilized the transfer portal — one of the college football's hottest commodities in recent years.

This year, the Buckeyes grabbed Davison Igbinosun via the portal, adding depth for their secondary in a move that 247Sports placed on its list for most impactful transfers, at No. 17.

"Igbinosun received a call from Ohio State head coach Ryan Day after entering the portal and that was enough," the site wrote. "He was ranked as the No. 4 cornerback in the transfer portal by 247Sports and chose the Buckeyes over interest from Michigan, UCLA and Tennessee, among others.

"Listed at 6-foot-2 and 187 pounds, Igbinosun is physically imposing and is the tallest corner on Ohio State's roster by at least an inch, although he looks noticeably bigger than the rest of his position group on the field."

Last season, Igbinosun 36 total tackles for the Ole Miss Rebels, and despite not tallying an interception, he showed strong potential, making him a key addition to the Denzel Burke-headlined secondary unit.

Igbinosun also joins former Syracuse safety Ja'Had Carter, who committed to the Buckeyes earlier this year, and teammate Tywone Malone, who adds talent to the Buckeyes' defensive front.

Overall, Igbinosun is shaping up to be a top transfer addition for Ohio State next season, and serves as another testament to the advantage of playing the portal well as it only continues to grow in popularity.
