'Starter That They Got in the 6th Round': Todd McShay's Post-Draft Analysis of Browns C Luke Wypler

Former Ohio State Buckeyes center Luke Wypler has started each of the last 26 games of his collegiate career.

Former Ohio State Buckeyes center Luke Wypler needed just two seasons as a starter to declare for the draft, foregoing his senior season.

There was speculation once Wypler slid to the third day whether he declared for the draft too soon, but ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay said after his sixth-round, No. 190 overall selection that the Montvale, N.J. native has a "chance to start."

"He was in the top-three results of all centers in the vertical jump and broad jump and that short shuttle, which is the most indicative of NFL success with interior offensive linemen," McShay said on the ESPN draft broadcast. "When we look back at this, Wypler's going to wind up being a starter that they got in the sixth round."

McShay took the advice New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick gave him and analyzed Wypler's tape from the Peach Bowl against former Georgia Bulldogs and Philadelphia Eagles first-round draft pick Jalen Carter, since that's the type of players he'll face in the NFL.

"He handles this big guy, does a good job on him," McShay said.

Wypler was one of the best centers in all of college football last season, ranking fourth in the Football Bowl Subdivision in Pro Football Focus' offense grade, seventh in their run block grade and 16th in their pass block grade. Wypler allowed one sack and seven hurries in 827 snaps last season, according to Pro Football Focus.

McShay thought Wypler was a "third, early fourth" round prospect, praising his "prototypical height, weight, speed" and his "quickness."

"He's an easy mover in terms of mirror and slide," McShay said. "He can get out on the second level, and I like his lower-body explosion, too. That allows him to get strength and the leverage of guys like Jalen Carter."
