Ohio State's TreVeyon Henderson A Top-10 Running Back To Watch in 2024 NFL Draft
Everyone, including himself, knows it is going to be a bounce-back year for Ohio State Buckeyes running back TreVeyon Henderson.
The Hopewell, VA. native rushed for less than half of his freshman rushing total in his sophomore season, but now that he is fully healthy ahead of his junior year, Pro Football Focus' Max Chadwick expects him to be a top-10 draft-eligible running back to watch for in the 2024 NFL Draft.
"Henderson was dominant as a true freshman, rushing for 1,251 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2021," Chadwick wrote. "A broken bone in his foot caused him to miss five games this past season, and he finished with a 73.9 grade. He’s a natural pass-catcher who caught 27 of his 29 targets in 2021 for 312 yards. If he can bounce back in 2023, he could be the top back in this class."
Henderson will look to reclaim sole possession as the No. 1 ball carrier on the Buckeyes' depth chart, as he was splitting carries with Miyan Williams even before his week 3 injury.
Chip Trayanum, who made the position switch from linebacker last season, played a pivotal role as the Buckeyes' feature back against Michigan last season as Henderson and Williams were hampered with injuries.
Dallan Hayden eclipsed the century mark in three games last season and Evan Pryor will look to return from an ACL injury.
Ohio State's running back options are plentiful ahead of the 2023 season, but Henderson showed in his freshman campaign that his ceiling is high. If he can return to his shifty and elusive running style that was missing last season as his injury limited his ability to cut, Henderson will take some pressure off whoever wins the starting quarterback job out of camp.
