Ohio State Buckeyes kicker Jake Seibert announced on Twitter Monday that he plans to enter the transfer portal with three years of eligibility left.

In the 2020-21 season, Seibert handled the kicking duties in three games, making his only career field goal in the national championship game against Alabama. He went 1-for-2, while knocking through all 16 of his extra-point attempts.

"I want to express my gratitude to Coach [Ryan] Day and the coaching staff for believing in me and helping me grow both on and off the field," Seibert said in a tweet. "Ohio State has provided me with an incredible education and countless opportunities for personal and athletic development, and I will always be thankful."

Seibert's road didn't only extend to kicking duties.

In preseason camp last year, he made a temporary number change to No. 16 and a positional change to cornerbacks, though he didn't see any playing time on defense.

“He had played some wide receiver and corner in high school, and he wanted to kind of bring some different value,” Day said in August 2022. “He’s still going to work on kicking and do that part of it, but he’s also going to bring value to other positions.”

The Buckeyes still have three kickers on the roster in sophomore Jayden Fielding — who served as their kickoff specialist last season — senior Parker Lewis and junior Casey Magyar, both of whom transferred in from USC and Kent State, respectively.

In the spring game, Fielding missed a 40-yard attempt while Lewis made a 38-yarder — the only field goal of the game.

Seibert said as he moves "on to the next chapter" he will "trust in the Lord."

"I believe that change can be a catalyst for growth and I am excited to see where this next step will take me," Seibert said in a tweet.
