Has Ohio State Earned “Offensive Line University” Title After 2023 NFL Draft?
The debate over which schools produce the most professional players at a certain position has mostly been limited to quarterbacks, wide receivers and other skill positions.
The Ohio State Buckeyes seem to always be in these conversations determining which institution is “Quarterback U” and “Wide Receiver U,” but the Buckeyes might be the undisputed winner for a different title: “Offensive Line U.”
26 Ohio State offensive linemen have heard their names called during the NFL Draft since 2000, with 16 going since 2013 alone.
The latest members of the Buckeyes o-line to go pro are center Luke Wypler and tackles Paris Johnson Jr. and Dawand Jones.
Johnson went first at number six overall to the Arizona Cardinals. Jones and Wypler both were selected in the later rounds by the Cleveland Browns.
Offensive linemen often go under the radar on most teams, unless they are one of only a handful of generational talents. The trend in sending linemen to the next level is hard to ignore, however, especially recently.
Ohio State still has a strong case for being the top producer of NFL receivers, defensive backs, and others, and the above focus on offensive linemen is not meant to be seen as a replacement for those honors.
Simply, in the middle of a raging debate with no signs of coming to a unanimous answer any time soon, it could be a nice change of pace to examine the areas where the Buckeyes have an edge rather than where they have a case.
