Former Ohio State safety Tyvis Powell has joined Big Ten Network for the 2023 season.

Powell will serve every Saturday morning as an analyst on BTN's pregame program, the "B1G Tailgate Show."

This is not the first time a Buckeyes football player has turned to commentary following the end of their playing career.

Preceding Powell in making this career change were quarterback Kirk Herbstreit (color commentator for ABC), wide receiver Joey Galloway (studio analyst for ESPN) and linebacker Bobby Carpenter (radio host on 97.1 The Fan in Columbus).

Powell's former teammate, Joshua Perry, is also an analyst for Big Ten Network, and now works with NBC as they gear up for their first season covering Ohio State football.

Powell's time with Big Ten Network will begin September 2 for Purdue's season-opening home game against Fresno State. After that, Powell and the crew will travel across the upper Midwest, heading to Michigan State, Wisconsin and Michigan over the next three weekends.

Week Five of the "B1G Tailgate Show" will preview the September 30 game between Minnesota and Louisiana from the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

Powell spent three seasons with the Buckeyes from 2013 to 2015 and ended his college career as a member of Ohio State's National Championship team.

The Bedford, Ohio native also spent time in the National Football League (NFL) with a handful of teams between 2016 and 2020. Powell began his career with the Seattle Seahawks but spent the next two seasons in San Francisco with the 49ers.

Most recently, Powell was a member of the Denver Broncos in 2019 and had an NFL tryout in September 2020.
