Buckeyes Blowout Youngstown State 35-7 in Home Opener
The Ohio State Buckeyes may have struggled at times last week against the Indiana Hoosiers in their home opener, but on Saturday against Youngstown State, they look to have taken a big step forward, winning 35-7 in a blowout fashion.
However, perhaps more importantly for the Buckeyes, it appears that Kyle McCord may have taken a stranglehold on the starting quarterback job in Columbus.
From the opening drive, McCord looked cool, calm and collected, hitting star receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. on a long touchdown throw to open up the scoring for the Buckeyes.
And before the Penguins even knew what hit them, McCord had led the Buckeyes to a 28-7 lead at the half, and the game was all but over.
For the game, McCord would end the day with dominant numbers, completing 14 of 20 passes for 258 yards and three touchdowns - two of which went to Harrison Jr.
The Buckeyes star wideout finished the day with seven catches for 160 yards alongside his two scores, while on the other side of the field fellow star Emeka Egbuka also had a big day, catching five passes for 94 yards and the other McCord touchdown.
Meanwhile, in his more limited action, Devin Brown struggled at times but finished with a respectable seven completions on 13 attempts for 101 yards.
However, it was clear that McCord was the more comfortable and efficient passer throughout the game.
With their second win now secured, the Buckeyes will turn their attention to a Week 3 matchup with Western Kentucky, before their big trip in Southbend against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in Week 4.
