Oklahoma SS Dakota Harris Wins Big 12 Weekly Award

Harris continued the tremendous start to his OU tenure helping the Sooners get a big conference series win against TCU.

Another week, another Big 12 honor for an Oklahoma player.

Fresh off of a big series win over TCU to open up conference play, Sooners shortstop Dakota Harris picked up some hardware on Monday as he was named the Big 12’s co-Newcomer of the Week.

In four games against Wichita State and TCU, Harris hit .385 for the week including going 5-for-10 in the series win over the Horned Frogs.

Against the Frogs, the junior shortstop hit a three-run home run with four RBIs on Friday, singled and doubled on Saturday, then tacked on his fifth RBI in Sunday’s series finale win.

On the season, Harris is now batting a sensational .386 thus far with four home runs, 27 RBIs and three stolen bases.

Meanwhile, he has also continued to provide a steady force defensively as he fills the enormous shoes left from Peyton Graham a year ago.

Oklahoma has enjoyed success from various contributors in the season’s positive start, but Harris has arguably been as important as anyone in the first month of action.

This marks the second straight time an OU player has won the award, after catcher Easton Carmichael earned the honor last Monday.

Having won 11 of their last 14 games, the Sooners return to action at home on Tuesday night against Dallas Baptist.
