Sooners in the NFL: Week Three

Oklahoma's NFL stars put on a show during week three action, with the biggest names set to play on Monday night.
In this story:

It was another impressive weekend for Sooner stars in the NFL. Big defensive stops, offensive touchdowns and fireworks on special teams highlighted the Oklahoma slate, all building up to an OU Monday night showdown. Tampa Bay and Baker Mayfield will take on Philadelphia and Jalen Hurts in a battle of Oklahoma’s greats at the quarterback position.

A big Sunday highlight was found in Arizona, where two former Oklahoma pass catchers went at it in an NFC battle. Ceedee Lamb and Hollywood Brown both had solid overall games as Kyler Murray looked on, still rehabbing his ACL injury. Brown walked away with a touchdown and the win, including five catches for 61 yards and a 2-point conversion catch.

Lamb got going in the second half with four catches for 53 yards, but the Cowboys fell 28-16.

Another OU receiver had a big day, too, as Marvin Mims hauled in three catches for 73 yards and a 99-yard kick return for a touchdown. You can read about his full performance here.

On the defensive side of the ball, Kenneth Murray sealed the win for the Chargers. With ten seconds left in the fourth quarter and the Vikings inside the ten yard line, Murray intercepted a Kirk Cousins pass and ended the game. The former Oklahoma linebacker had a monster game, racking up nine tackles, one for loss, one interception and a pass deflection. He has come up big for the Chargers in two straight weeks.

Ogbo Okoronkwo had an impressive defensive performance, too, continuing to make the Browns look smart for offering him a contract this offseason. He capped off an impressive Cleveland win with two tackles, 0.5 sacks and a tackle for loss.

Delarrin Turner-Yell and Nik Bonitto got busy on the Broncos defense, even though the team couldn't slow down the Dolphins one bit. Turner-Yell recorded a career-high 11 tackles, while Bonitto tallied six, including two for loss. The Broncos also signed Ronnie Perkins off the Patriots practice squad last week, and even though he wasn't active yet, Perkins could make an impact soon.
