The Oklahoma State Cowboys will be facing a shorthanded Kansas Jayhawks team. This comes at a time when the Cowboys have a real opportunity to flip the momentum in their favor on the season.

Kansas starting quarterback Jalon Daniels is about to miss his third game in a row. His backup, Jason Bean, has started in the last two games. They lost to Kansas a couple of weeks back before defeating UCF a week ago. Bean will start against Oklahoma State this weekend, according to Brett McMurphy.

In the UCF win for the Jayhawks, Kansas rushed the ball 51 times for 399 yards with many contributors, utilizing the ground game to control the offense and score 51 points.

For the Cowboys, this certainly changes the approach for Bryan Nardo and his 3-3-5 defensive scheme.

During his press conference on Monday, Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy talked about preparing for Bean instead of Daniels in the matchup.

“We have to prepare for Bean,” Gundy said. “I don't know what's going on with Jalon Daniels, but he's not been out there in a couple of weeks, and I don't know that they change a lot when he's in there.

"They're going to do the same stuff in my opinion. Now he might bring a few things to the table differently, but we have to prepare for the guy that's been out there.”

It'll be interesting to see how Kansas approaches the Cowboys' defense, which shut down the passing game last week against Kansas State, with Bean under center. On the season, the Jayhawks average 232 rushing yards per game of their 434 yards per game -- meaning over half their offensive yardage comes on the ground game.

For the Cowboys defense, they allow 154 rushing yards per game of their 371 allowed yards per game. It'll have to be a focal point for the Cowboys, and not being deterred by pre-snap motions on rushing plays will be important, as a few huge run plays could set the Cowboys back.

On the season, Bean has 503 passing yards, completing 39 of his 61 passes for four touchdowns and no interceptions for the Jayhawks.
