Oklahoma State to Continue Rotating Three Quarterbacks

After three weeks and three games played, Oklahoma State will continue rotating three quarterbacks, not naming a starter.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys are in need of a shake-up. They got by after a couple of slow starts and got off to a 2-0 start on the season, but South Alabama didn't let it slide, as the Cowboys lost to the Jaguars 33-7.

The offense is in dire need of consistency, and that starts at the quarterback position. The three-quarterback system was fine in the team's two easy matchups that were closer than they probably should have been, but was exposed greatly in the Week 3 loss.

Heading into conference play, taking on Iowa State in Week 4, Mike Gundy still hasn't named a starting quarterback.

"We're rotating along as we have," Gundy said during his Monday press conference. "There's not really anything to talk about that would make it different."

Gundy claimed that each of the three quarterbacks, Gunnar Gundy, Garret Rangel and Alan Bowman, have all been pretty good. He also mentioned that the strategy behind rotating them won't change.

After the loss to South Alabama, not a lot probably did change between the quarterbacks. None of them were able to stand out during their shifts. This wasn't exactly a good thing, though.

The Cowboys only scored seven points, a singular touchdown, against the Jaguars. They also benefitted from the Jaguars playing a soft zone and the Cowboys taking their sweet time driving down the field.

Going into the matchup against Iowa State, the three-quarterback system could cause issues as the Cowboys start conference play. The rest of the team will have to carry a heavy load. The defense will need to look like it did in the second half of the matchup against Arizona State in Week 2.

If the offense and the three quarterbacks can't help the defense, though, the game could be a struggle for the Cowboys. It's hard to believe the quarterback debacle has been running this long, and it'll be interesting to see how much longer it goes.
