The son of Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy, Gunnar, is on the move once again. He transferred out of Oklahoma State in December with the limited opportunity of playing for his father.
With Alan Bowman returning for a seventh season of college football and his second with Oklahoma State -- with a starting job likely guaranteed -- there was already going to be limited opportunity. With Garret Rangel and Zane Flores each both in the mix at the position, transferring made the most sense for Gunnar.
He initially transferred to Ohio University where he would eventually re-enter the transfer portal, as 247Sports reported on Tuesday. Gunnar spent three seasons playing under his father in Stillwater, as he posted 449 career passing yards while completing 54.8 percent of his passes. He threw for four touchdowns and four interceptions in his three seasons.
This past season, Gunnar was in a three-way quarterback battle with Bowman and Rangel -- as the job was eventually won by Bowman. They had an unconventional quarterback battle, as the three quarterbacks shared playing time in three straight games, splitting time in the actual game like pitchers would in a baseball game.
In three games, Gunnar passed for 202 yards while completing 21 of his 34 passes for one touchdown and had zero interceptions. He also played in the Texas Bowl for one snap, rushing for a touchdown while playing in one final game with his father.
Gunnar rushed for 120 yards over his career with 35 carries and one touchdown, which obviously came against Texas A&M.
It's unclear where Gunnar will go after entering the portal, but he held a handful of offers his initial time in the portal, and he'll likely have more options to find the best place for playing time while he's once again in the transfer portal.
