Ollie Gordon Enters On3's Top 25 Running Back Rankings After Huge Performance Last Week
Ollie Gordon has been incredible this season. Outside of the revolving quarterback door to start the season, Gordon has been the biggest story surrounding the Oklahoma State football program.
What Gordon has done through the first seven games for the Cowboys is remarkable. He didn't get as many snaps as deserved early in the season, but since his breakout game in Week 4, he's been incredible.
Despite the slow start to the season, Gordon is statistically one of the best running backs in the country. With 116 carries, Gordon has 816 rushing yards, which is good for seven yards per carry as he has eight rushing touchdowns.
So, where does Gordon rank across the country?
Well, statistically, as mentioned, Gordon ranks pretty high in the nation. Yardage-wise, Gordon is No. 8. Four players ahead of him have played an additional game. When taking into account that Gordon didn't play much early in the season, this is wild.
While he's highly ranked in the numbers across the country, where does the national media rank Gordon?
On3's Andrew Graham isn't quite as high on Gordon as Cowboys fans might have hoped. After his 282 rushing yards performance against West Virginia, Graham ranked Gordon for the first time this season.
"Gordon (No. 25) enters the Top 25 after a blistering performance for 282 yards and four touchdowns in a win," Graham wrote in the rankings.
For Gordon to get national attention in any capacity is incredible given how the season started not just for Gordon, but for the entire team. The offensive line has been amazing after the Cowboys realized what they were doing early in the season wasn't working, and this allowed Gordon to have a midseason breakout.
Now, the Cowboys and Gordon will have a chance to continue proving themselves. They host Cincinnati in "America's Greatest" homecoming. The Bearcats have a solid front seven, and Oklahoma State's run game will have to be sharp to continue being productive.
