Austin Simmons Earns Win, Rebels Dominate Missouri State to Extend Winning Streak

The Ole Miss Rebels blew out the Missouri State Bears on Wednesday night to extend their winning streak to four games.

OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss Rebels continued their hot streak at the plate on Wednesday night as they took down the Missouri State Bears 12-3 at Swayze Field.

Ole Miss fell behind 2-0 in the second inning as the Bears brought runs home on a wild pitch and an RBI single, but the Rebels responded with a four-spot in the bottom of the third to gain a lead that they didn't relinquish for the rest of the night.

The first four runs for the Rebels came via two-run doubles from Jackson Ross and Ethan Lege, both of whom finished the game tied for the team lead in RBI alongside Treyson Hughes. After a game on Tuesday night that was defined by the home run ball (eight total), Wednesday did not see a home run from either team.

The Rebels pushed across a run apiece in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings before breaking the dam in the eighth with five runs in that frame. Missouri State's final run of the night came in the top of the fourth on a passed ball.

Riley Maddox drew the start on the hill for Ole Miss (one of seven Rebels to take the mound), but the win was credited to his first reliever in dual-sport athlete Austin Simmons. His winning performance saw just one hit and one unearned run across two innings of work, and he struck out three.

With the win, Ole Miss improves to 6-4 on the year and completes a perfect slate in this week's midweek action. The Rebels will return to the diamond on Friday when they open their weekend series against the Iowa Hawkeyes.

First pitch in the series opener is set for 6:30 p.m. CT, and the game will be televised on SEC Network+.
