Doyle Deals, Rebels Run-Rule Morehead State to Win Series
OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss Rebels cruised to a seven-inning run-rule win over the Morehead State Eagles on Saturday evening behind a strong starting performance from Saturday arm Liam Doyle.
Doyle, a left-handed transfer from Coastal Carolina, was thrust into the Saturday pitching role this week as head coach Mike Bianco continues to search for his full-time starting rotation entering SEC play next weekend.
If this win was any indication, Doyle will likely receive the ball sometime next weekend as well.
Although he only lasted 3.1 innings on Saturday, Doyle allowed just three hits, one walk and one hit batter while racking up a whopping eight strikeouts. His lone run allowed came home in the fourth inning on an RBI groundout to shortstop Luke Hill.
Doyle was relieved by a combination of Cole Tolbert, Patrick Galle and Mason Nichols to end the day, and that trio gave up a combined two hits and struck out seven.
Offensively, it was another banner day for the Rebels as they tallied 11 hits against five Morehead State arms, and they got the scoring started early with three runs in the first inning followed by a four-spot in the second.

Left fielder Ethan Lege continued his hot streak at the plate on Saturday, leading the team in hits with three and tied for the lead in RBIs with three. He was joined in the multi-RBI category by Luke Hill (3), Brayden Randle (2) and Treyson Hughes (2).
With the win, Ole Miss improves to 11-5 on the year, and it will take the field again on Sunday afternoon against Morehead State with hopes of sweeping its first series of the season. First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m. CT, and the game will be televised on SEC Network+.
