Rebels Rake In 10-3 Win Over Morehead State: Three Takeaways

Ole Miss Rebel hitters racked up 13 hits in Friday night's defeat of the Morehead State Eagles.

The Ole Miss Rebels came in looking for their 10th win of the season on Friday night, and they found just that in a 10-3 decision over the Morehead State Eagles. Gunnar Dennis got the start, and the offense produced early and often in the win.

Here are three takeaways for Friday night's matchup.

Everyone Hits

Everyone in the starting lineup for Ole Miss recorded a hit on Friday night.

Ethan Lege led the way with three knocks, including a frozen rope of a home run down the left-field line to get the scoring started. The Rebels also had four doubles and seemed to be looking for pitches to hammer. The approach at the plate also looked sound, as the Rebs used the whole field.

Treyson Hughes had a great opposite-field double that scored two. Hughes is slowly coming along and has looked better recently, and he is still searching for that truly breakout series.

If the Rebels continue to mash, a sweep could be in order.

Bullpen Continues to Dominate

The bullpen over the last couple of weeks has been dominant. Mitch Murrell and Sam Tookoian handled the load on Friday night and were flawless.

Murrell and Tookoian combined for seven strikeouts, no earned runs and no walks. While these innings weren't high-leverage, the continued consistency is undoubtedly a good sign.

Errors

The Rebels have made a good amount of errors this season and added two more on Friday. While they didn't come back to haunt them, later in the season against higher competition they will.

Defense in baseball can sometimes be overlooked because the best teams seem to make it look easy, but bad defense will cost you wins. This is something that must be cleaned up before SEC play starts.

The Rebels play the second game of the series on Saturday at 4 p.m. CT as Liam Doyle gets the rock. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network+.
