What Ole Miss Coach Mike Bianco Said After Rebels' Series Loss at Texas A&M
The Ole Miss Rebels narrowly-missed gaining their first series win in SEC play on Sunday, but they fell short in a 5-4 loss vs. the Texas A&M Aggies.
Head coach Mike Bianco was made available after the loss to discuss the day and weekend as a whole, and his quotes can be found below.
Opening statement:
It's tough to put into words this quickly after the game, especially where you tie it up in the top of the ninth. It was one of those days where we had an opportunity to win and maybe should have won, but we just didn't do enough. We didn't have good at-bats when it meant the most, didn't make good pitches when it meant the most. That's how you win baseball games in the Southeastern Conference. We didn't do enough of that today.
On frustration with Saturday's win not carrying over into Sunday:
I'm probably more frustrated that we didn't build on the three-run lead we had early in the game. I don't think we go into this game thinking, 'Let's win this one so we're on some kind of winning streak.' I think my disappointment is that we didn't play better.
On takeaways from the weekend:
We're close but not close enough. I sound like a broken record, but this league is just so unforgiving, and if you don't play well, you don't win. The teams are too good. That's why when you look at the end of the day, the championships are usually won by a game. Even though you play 30 of them, it comes down to who plays the best the most, and we haven't done that enough, obviously.
On JT Quinn's first SEC start:
I thought he competed and gave us a chance to win. Maybe on a different day where we swung it better, that would have happened. I think he would admit it wasn't his best stuff today, but he hung in there and gave us an opportunity. Like a lot of the freshmen, there's a lot more in there that we need to get out.
