Preview, How to Watch, Listen: Ole Miss Baseball Set to Host No. 1 LSU

Ole Miss LHP Hunter Elliott returns to the lineup as the Rebels welcome the No. 1 LSU Tigers to Swayze Field.

OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss Rebels are set to host the No. 1 LSU Tigers this weekend at Swayze Field and will, fortunately, be getting reinforcements to their starting rotation.

Ole Miss LHP Hunter Elliott is scheduled to return to the mound on Saturday in his first start since Opening Day. In his only start of the season, the 2022 Freshman All-American threw 5.0 innings recording three hits, two earned runs, one walk, and nine strikeouts in an 11-2 victory over the Delaware Hens.

With Elliott back, junior RHP Jack Dougherty will return to the bullpen to give the Ole Miss relievers a veteran arm to lean on. Junior LHP Xavier Rivas will be taking over for Dougherty in the Friday night slot until Elliott is up to speed again.

Ole Miss owns an overall record of 21-16 after collecting a much-needed midweek victory over the Arkansas State Red Wolves on Tuesday but is still struggling against conference opponents with a 3-12 record in SEC play. The Rebels are currently the worst baseball team in their conference and their chances of securing their first SEC series victory are seemingly-small with No. 1 LSU coming to town.

Going into Friday night, the Tigers are sitting at 29-7 overall with a 9-5 record versus SEC opponents after losing their midweek battle on Tuesday to the UL-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns 5-8. LSU plans to start junior LHP Paul Skenes on Friday night, who has been pitching lights out this season recording a 1.69 ERA in 53.1 IP while only surrendering two home runs.
