Ole Miss Drops Out of D1Baseball Top 25 After Early Struggles
The Ole Miss Rebels entered the season with high expectations - after all, when you're the defending national champions the onus is on you to put together a strong title defense.
Now, though, the Rebels find themselves stumbling out of the gate in conference play and not looking like a team that may not make it to Hoover, let alone to Omaha to defend their title.
After getting swept over the weekend by the No. 3 Florida Gators, the Rebels dropped to an uninspiring 0-6 in conference play. To make matters worse, the Florida sweep knocked the Rebels out of D1Baseball's top 25.
Despite entering the season ranked at No. 4 by D1Baseball, the Rebels must bounce back in a strong fashion to earn their way back into the top 25. Doing so, however, will be much easier said than done with their upcoming schedule.
Next up for the Rebels is a midweek matchup against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles followed by a three-game road series against another struggling SEC team in the Texas A&M Aggies.
Luckily for Ole Miss, baseball is a long season and an 0-6 start in conference play does not spell doom just yet. The Rebels are one extended winning streak away from jumping back into not only the top 25, but the conversation of legitimate contenders to win the SEC.
