Ole Miss LHP Hunter Elliott Pulled After One Inning vs. No. 1 LSU

Ole Miss Rebels LHP Hunter Elliott was limited to 50 pitches on Saturday versus the No. 1 LSU Tigers, and his day ended rather quickly.

OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss Rebels LHP Hunter Elliott was hit with a 50-pitch target for his return to the mound on Saturday afternoon versus the No. 1 LSU Tigers, and he hit that target rather quickly.

Elliott’s first start since Opening Day was rocky off the bat. The sophomore struck out his first batter of the day before surrendering a walk and a two-run blast courtesy of LSU center fielder Dylan Crews. That was the only damage allowed by Elliott, however, and the sophomore ended his first inning of the day with three strikeouts, three walks, one hit, and two earned runs on 34 pitches.

That was the only complete inning thrown by Elliott on Saturday, as the 2022 Freshman All-American quickly reached his 50-pitch target in the second inning after loading the bases before being replaced by sophomore RHP Mason Nichols. Elliott finished his Saturday start with two hits, five earned runs, five walks, three strikeouts, and a 10.50 ERA. Elliott faced 10 hitters and walked half of them.

While he was not expected to be in the game too long, Elliott was assigned a difficult task in his first outing since February, slowing down the No. 1 team in the country. The Ole Miss offense also gave Elliott zero run support, not making this task any easier.
